Avon Valley organise or co-organise many events throughout the year:

Road 5k 

 Westbury 5k 

Second Tuesdays of May, June, July & August.

The races will take place on:

This is a no-frills, proven fast, flat 5k road race.  Current records - 14:30 Harry Allen, 16:02 Verity Ockenden.

The race has gun to tape chip timing in order to accommodate the uncertainty regarding the undoing of the COVID lockdown. 

The entry fees of £10 EA affiliated and £12 non-affiliated reflect this but the races are still the cheapest quality 5ks in the region.

An annual friendly and affordable 33 mile trail run organised by Avon Valley Runners and the Rotary Club of Westbury, mainly following the Imber Range Perimeter Path (IRPP), via five well stocked checkpoints.  2024 is our 10th Anniversary run, so expect a few added extras this year.  Entries are now open, priced at £36 affiliated / £38 unaffiliated, and with NO booking fee for the runner - at https://www.entrycentral.com/Imber-Ultra-2024

Avon Valley Relay

Fancy a fun team challenge running through the beautiful Wiltshire landscape? Or perhaps a solo mission conquering a 17 mile run? Come and run in The Avon Valley Relay!

The Avon Valley Relay is an 17 mile ‘pass the baton’ relay over four self-navigated stages along the roads and towpaths between Winsley and Trowbridge via Melksham through the beautiful Avon Valley. The event is also open to solo runners who wish to run all four stages of the relay. A map of the route can be found on the Avon Valley Runners website. The relay is supported by friendly and enthusiastic volunteers, has a brilliant "buzz" atmosphere and is a great day out for spectators and runners. 

So whether you want to enter for a bit of fun with your friends/fellow club members, to compete against other clubs or to run through the picturesque countryside come and join the 2023 Avon Valley Relay. We look forward to seeing you!

Leg #1 of 4-miles. Starting at  Bradford on Avon Rugby Club in Winsley the relay starts  with a lap around the rugby pitches before heading out on a quiet country lane to the hamlet of Warleigh, where you descend down to the banks of the River Avon where you follow a footpath all the way to the towpath of the Kennet & Avon canal and on a short distance to the first handover point at Dundas Aqueduct.

Leg #2 of 4.25-miles. Starting on Dundas Aqueduct the course follows the towpath of the Kennet & Avon canal all the way through to Avoncliff and onto Barton Farm Country Park where the handover point is outside the Tithe Barn in Bradford on Avon.

Leg #3 of 5.75-miles. Starting outside the Tithe Barn in Bradford on Avon the course heads up Pound Lane and after a careful crossing of the Frome Road the course rejoins the towpath of the Kennet & Avon canal which is followed all the way through Staverton and onto Semington where the final handover point can be found outside the "Somerset Arms".

Leg #4 of 3-miles. Starting outside the "Somerset Arms" in Semington the course heads through the village before moving off-road following the Kennet & Avon canal on the opposite bank to the towpath affording the leading runners to see those two miles behind on the other side. At Whaddon bridge the course heads back onto the road for a gentle climb up towards Hilperton where a bridlepath leads the way to Trowbridge Rugby Club where the finish line awaits following a a lap around the Rugby pitches.

A fantastic run in the beautiful and scenic Avon Valley countryside.

Starting from Barton Farm Country Park in Bradford on Avon, Wiltshire.

The run is predominantly off-road, combining canal towpaths and river meadows with hilly woodland and a fording of the River Frome.  Have fun while also raising money for Alzheimer’s Support and Trowbridge Lions charities. 

An excellent Sunday Morning Race.

Half Marathon

AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon 

Sunday, 24th November 2024

Come and celebrate the 12th year of the the AVR Wiltshire Half Marathon.  Starting at Edington Station Yard the route goes through beautiful countryside for 13.1 miles.  The certified course is a great half marathon.  Entries for next year are £34 for non affiliated and £32 for affiliated.  Goodie bags will include a medal and a t-shirt!  For full details, past results, and to Enter click here.
