Report: Conkwell Killer

Jul 26, 2009

Posted by: Wrinty

Once again there was a good turnout for the 4th Conkwell Killer, this year incorporating a junior run for the first time. The inclement weather held for the runners, although it was quite windy.

Tom Fisher lead the race from the start and took the winners trophy, knocking off 43 seconds from last years time, to finish in 49:05 with Team Bath's Allister Sheffield second in 50:20 and AVR's Mike Towler third in 51:09.

The ladies were headed home by Team Bath's Emer Brangan in 59:43, very closely followed by Warminster's Diane Heir in 59:56, Victoria Plummer of Team Bath was third in 68:05.

Intense battle ensued between AVR's Alan Tate and Jack O'Shea who fought shoulder to shoulder all the way along the finishing straight crossing the line with only a second between them, whilst some runners were only too pleased to see the finish, crossing the line at barely more than a stagger, indicative of how deceptively challenging this race is!

The Vet 40's were claimed by Niall Urquhart (Team Bath) and Linda Ladner (AVR)
The Vet 50's were claimed by Nigel Stone (Somer AC) and Karen Butler (AVR)
The Vet 60's were claimed by Patrick Rogers (Team Bath) Pauline Dable (Kennilworth Runners)

Team Bath claimed both team prizes.

In the Junior Jaunt, the winner was AVR's Alex Shaw in 11:36, 2nd place went to AVR's Benny Shaw in 11:51 with 3rd and 4th place also going to brothers, Kyle and Bradley Webb in 11:59 and 12:07 respectively. Very well done to all our junior competitors who all put in immense effort.
