Off Road Running

I have a (virtual) challenge for you all.

In the last two weeks I have run the scenic Bishops Cannings 5000m dash which passes through some beautiful Wiltshire countryside.

Starting from the school (postcode SN10 2LD), the route takes you along a quiet road towards Bourton in an easterly direction, past the first turning on the left (that's your return route) to a farm where the road finishes. Take the track to the left and climb up. After about 3k the main path bears right but you take the smaller track which is partly covered by grass and you will soon begin to descend, later joining the road mentioned above and returning to the school. Record your time and send it to me (offroad@avonvalleyrunners.org.uk) and I will publish the results in my next newsletter.

Records to beat:

  • Simon Nott : 17:54
  • Amy Stiles : 19:36
  • Veteran record : 21:32 set by Gary Hughes in 2014.

Other 5k off road routes include:

  • 5x5 – six of us have already run this trail this year
  • Heddington 5k – I ran this last week and saw a sign saying “SLOW … One Old Man”
  • The Stan Farr 5k Boxing Day run
  • The 5k River Run – see facebook @chippenhamriverrun

...and a road 5k:

  • Westbury 5k – The start sign is near the VW garage, and the finish is at the next lamp post (unfortunately the finish sign has disappeared)

… and an easy 10k off road route to follow is the SMaRTT Smasher
