The White Horse Relay

around the 8 visible White Horses in Wiltshire

75 mile, 14 leg, cross country Relay Race

UK:A Licence Number: 10401

Sunday, 8th June 2008 at 09:00

The relay will start and finish at the Westbury White Horse (Bratton)

This is a relay of 14 stages (7 runners per team running 2 stages each) around the 8 visible Wiltshire White Horses along tracks, across fields, through woods and the last stage is entirely on road, some of it tarmaced, some of it unmade, using mainly the White Horse Trail, the Wessex Ridgeway, Wansdyke Path, Tan Hill Way and the Imber Range Path.

It gives a wide variety of interest for short distance (from 1.9 miles) to 10 mile runners who like both cross country and (for the last stage) road, not to mention the great views that can be seen from this wonderful countryside.

There are 4 stages of less than 3 miles each, 7 stages of less than 7 miles each and 3 stages over 8 miles each.

Each stage will start as a mass start at about the expected time of arrival of the first runner from the previous stage.

Each runner will be awarded points based on the position they finish in each leg. The winning team will be the team with the least points. No times will be recorded.

It is the responsibility of each runner to follow the Race Route (supplied with each team's acceptance of entry or available on request), as there are few or no marshals or additional markers. The organisers take no responsibility for ensuring that the trail is waymarked. Your team is advised to check out the course in advance of the race. The course has been plotted on Google Maps which can be seen in great detail, for example the cars parked at Knap Hill are clearly visible individually.

Prizes will be awarded to the 1st Men's team, the 1st Women's team and the first mixed team in The Old Stable Tea Room, Bratton.

Entry Fees - £50 per team if UK:A affiliated, otherwise £65.
Closing date for entries: tba. Limit: 20 teams. There will be no entries on the day.
